KUOT-CCC hosted a cooking class with Sous Chef Dean Orr from Drew's Bayshore Bistro in Keyport, NJ.  A group of 2nd year OT students from Dr. Mariann Moran's administration course facilitated the programming. The class was designed to explore various cooking adaptive devices and strategies.  Participants included individuals with physical limitations due to stroke, arthritis and developmental disabilities as well as potential occupational therapy students.

The group began by preparing a black kale Caesar salad with homemade dressing and croutons. They enjoyed trialing and utilizing the various adaptive devices to prepare their meal. The main course included a roasted pork loin with apple cider jus and root vegetables hash. Throughout the class, Sous chef Dean shared his expertise in purchasing the ingredients, demonstrating proper cutting techniques using some of our adaptive knives and sharing his cooking tips. The OT students provided education on various strategies for joint protection, energy conservation and modification of various cooking tasks throughout the class.

It was a very successful event and everyone enjoyed the interacting with one another, learning new techniques/tools and sharing a delicious meal.
